A Local Solution for CaroMont Health Park?
A new group pairing a well-connected local entrepreneur with a seasoned baseball operator is reportedly coming together ahead of the City's November 30 deadline.
Since the City of Gastonia opened its search for a new operator at CaroMont Health Park, one question has hung over the FUSE District: who's next, and how will it be different this time?
According to a source close to the effort, a new group is quietly coming together, and it may not be what anyone expects.
We're told the group pairs a well-connected local entrepreneur with an operator who knows the business of baseball from the inside. The two had planned to submit separately, but once they connected, they quickly decided to join forces. One brings deep ties and existing impact in Gaston County; the other brings ball knowledge and experience running a team. Together, our source says, they're "creating a regional destination, not just a baseball team."
More than one game in town
Baseball may not be the only sport on the field.
"There's more than one sport on the table that we aim to activate immediately," our source hinted, declining to say more.
The bigger goal is year-round activation: a venue with something happening every week, not just on game nights. Think concerts, festivals, community gatherings, and events that keep people coming back all year long.
Community at the heart of it
Our source pointed to a focus on supporting local nonprofits and strengthening ties with the restaurants, breweries and small businesses along Main Street and throughout the district.
"This only works if the whole community wins," they told us.
Perhaps most intriguing, the effort is reportedly drawing interest from some of the area's most established and beloved entrepreneurs, who've been invited to get behind it. If that's true, this bid is being built by people who know and love this community best.
What's next
Proposals are due to the City on November 30. Who's behind it? We'll know soon enough.
